Yei-Yei's 6th Anniversary

The 'Wong' side of my family very recently got together to have dinner, in honour of my paternal grand-father, on the 6th anniversary of his passing.

We make it a point to do this annually, as we remember Ah Yei and celebrate his life. The one trait that I will always remember my grandfather for is that he was a very giving person. Always putting others first before himself, it is a trait that is very hard to live up to. More than that, Ah Yei showered the entire family with unconditional love. From my childhood till the day of his passing, he played the role of grandfather to a 'T'.

As I recollect the many memories I have, I too shall try to put into practice some of the very positive traits that he embodied.

Ah Yei's 3rd Anniversary

17 March 2011 marked the third anniversary of my paternal grand-father's passing. As we do every year, the extended family gathered for dinner to celebrate his life and the joy he brought to all of us.

Ah Yei was a fantastic chef. It is therefore apt that we remember him with a lavish meal. The photo says it all. We had steamboat with a variety of meat, vegetables and condiments; 3 tables in total at the family home. The secret is the stock - chicken stock boiled over a coal fire for numerous hours before being transferred into the steamboat. Cut mango and homemade 'tow foo fah' followed as desserts. We eat as only the Wongs know how.

We remember Ah Yei fondly. His culinary skills, his affable disposition, the unconditional love he had for us all.
